Unfortunately, they live not in Russia. Russian men did not top the list of the best quality sperm, but did not fall too low either, staying somewhere in the middle. The winners are Spanish, Latvian and Estonian men.
Swiss researchers decided to analyze sperm samples of 2.5 thousand men aged between 18 and 22 years old. The overall conclusion was that the sperm quality in half of European countries is below average. The norm is between 41 and 68 million spermatozoids per 1 ml of sperm. If the count is lower, conceiving a child will be problematic.
Russian experts, however, are skeptical about this research. The sperm count is not the only factor that defines male fertility. Structural properties and velocity are equally important. But overall, the study has once again proved that the countries where people experience high level of stress, have sedentary lifestyle, smoke and drink alcohol, show low levels of male fertility.
