A same-sex couple achieved confirmation of their parental rights in the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. Their baby was born through surrogacy in California in 2012, and under the laws of the state, both men were recognized as its parents.

One of the partners residing in the United States is a Dane, the other is a Czech by origin. The couple periodically comes to the Czech Republic, where they are fighting for the official recognition of their parental rights for medical services and possible solutions to inheritance issues.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic recognized parental rights for only one of the men, which, according to the Constitutional Court, violated the rights of the second member of the pair. The case was sent back to the Czech Supreme Court for review.
